Frequently asked questions

  • A Refillery is an eco-friendly store designed to reduce single use plastic consumption for a more sustainable lifestyle by offering a refill option on household and personal care products.

Rather than purchasing a new container each time, you can reuse and refill your own containers over and over again.

Refilleries can also create a closed loop system with respect to bulk containers. At Changing Tides Refillery we work distributers that take back their empty bulk containers to also be refilled and reused again.

  • Plastic is a major pollutant in our environment and microplastics are even ending up in our drinking water. “Every year, Canadians throw away 3 million tonnes of plastic waste, only 9% of which is recycled, meaning the vast majority of plastics end up in landfills and about 29,000 tonnes finds its way into our natural environment.”1 Refilling and reusing rather than recycling and throwing away is a simple yet impactful way for us to shift to a sustainable way of living and help save our precious resources and energy.

This CBC Market Place video: “Tracking Your Plastic: Exposing Recycling Myths” drives home the reason why we should be focusing on reducing and reusing. Recycling should be a much less emphasized "R" and be our last resort. Let's replace Recycle with Refill where ever possible!
