Why Refill?
Canadians throw away 3 million tonnes of plastic waste yearly, and only 9% of which is recycled. Shocking, eh? This means the vast majority of plastics end up in landfills and about 29,000 tonnes finds its way into our natural environment.
It is estimated that 150 million metric tons of plastic is in our oceans and 8 million metric tons are added annually. It is predicted that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish.
Refilling and reusing rather than “recycling” and throwing away is a simple yet impactful way for us to start the shift to a more sustainable way of living.
